fun at home date night ideas

Date nights are so important in order to stay connected in any relationship. And, just because life happens, like the babysitter cancels or you’re too tired after a long week to get dressed up to leave the house, doesn’t mean you have to skip a date night. There are plenty of fun and romantic ways to plan an evening indoors at home to de-stress and catch up with your spouse or significant other. Here are ten at home date night ideas to give you inspiration that aren’t watching a movie or binge watching something on Netflix!

10 At Home Date Night Ideas

1 – Cook a Meal Together

Peruse Pinterest and find a new recipe your both are interested in trying. It doesn’t have to be a complex 5-course meal. And to make it feel extra special, get dressed up, switch up your dining location, and set the table with a nice table cloth and candles.

2 – Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

Watch your wedding video or look at photo albums together. It’s enjoyable to watch old home movies from when you were growing up too!

3 – Start a Book Club for Two

Do you and your significant love to read? Choose a book to read together and have a wine night to discuss each chapter as you go along.

4 – Make a Time Capsule

Gather some newspaper headlines, magazines, photos, and momentos. Make a list of prices of essentials like gasoline, bread, milk, etc. Decide where you want to bury it for your kids or a stranger to find later.

5 – Have a Picnic

Nothing is more romantic than a picnic. Go for a hike or bike ride and pack a picnic lunch. Or set it up in your backyard right before sunset. Make sandwiches or a charcuterie board, bring sparkling water or a bottle of wine, and don’t forget a portable speaker for music.

6 – At-Home Spa

Everyone loves to be pampered. Take an online massage class together to learn techniques, and then show off your best massage skills. Relax in a hot bath with bath bombs or essential oils. Or just grab your robes and cozy slippers and use your favorite face mask.

7 – Have a Karaoke Night

You don’t need to have a microphone or machine. Download a karaoke app or check YouTube for karaoke channels. Choose each other’s songs or sing a duet. Either way, you’ll have a blast signing the night away.

8 – Have a Progressive Take Out Night

Take advantage of curbside pickup and get appetizers from one restaurant, the main meal, and dessert from others. This helps support local restaurants too! And you could go back to idea five and make a picnic out of it!

9 – Play the Newlywed Game

Find out how well you really know your significant other. Check out Andrea’s questions or find more here.

10 – Craft Cocktail Competition

Bring the bar to your home. Instead of mixing your regular drink, have some fun and friendly competition to see who can craft the best cocktail.

  1. Lovely suggestions, Jill! I didn’t marry until I was I 52. My husband was 60. The great thing about marrying late, is you have enough wisdom and time (we are retired) to make each other the priority. Every evening is date night at our house.

  2. These all sound like really fun ideas! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Such good ideas Jill! We love Happy Hour around here and when the boys aren’t home we have a charcuterie board. The progressive take out dinner sounds like fun!

  4. These are wonderful and not so been-there-done-that ideas, Jill! I especially love the ones involving outside and a picnic, though the old home movies one brings back memories of family night when I was growing up. Dad would get out the reel-to-reel and play all of the old videos of us and pretty much any movie he could pick up for $1 that came on a reel-to-reel player 😛 And I love the idea of making new-to-us cocktails! Thanks so much for the inspiration!

  8. Oh yeah a picknick! And cook together!

  9. These are great suggestions. We read a book together normally every other month, but lately eating and enjoying breakfasts and dinners al fresco in our yard has been amazing.

  10. Such lovely and easy to do ideas. Although the ”cooking meal together” for me is usually patiently waiting for food to be served and I can do dishes afterwards.

  12. PC and I usually read at least one book together. And we have started one this spring but find it hard to concentrate right now with visions of Covid dancing in our heads.

We do progressive dinner dates when all is right with the world. Like the idea of a progressive take out dinner. Might have to do that this weekend. All of this cooking is for the birds!!

  13. Mireille

Great ideas: but not sure which ones would really work with my hubby: picnic yes, and maybe playing the newlywed game.
