If you find that you just can’t start the day right without a cup of coffee, you are not alone. Coffee is a special part of morning routines and since we’re at home more often than ever, here are some tips to improve the taste and quality of the coffee you brew at home.

 

Better Beans

The easiest and single most important way to make sure that you improve the coffee you are making is to use better beans. The quality of the beans is always going to determine the quality of the coffee. Whether you want to shake it up and go for Kona coffee, or stick with your usual brand but upgrade to a better bean, it will make a big difference.

 

Water Temperature

If you want to make the best coffee possible at home, you have to learn about the importance of water temperature. Most people use water that is far too hot for making coffee. You shouldn’t use boiling water; in fact, you should aim for water that is just below boiling point. That’s because boiling water burns the beans and produces a taste that is stringent and bitter to most palates. Make sure you use a coffee machine or turn the kettle off before it fully boils.

 

Grind Your Own

If you are serious about coffee you might want to you grind your own beans. Grinding your own beans is one way to produce a cup of coffee that is just so much better. There are all kinds of coffee bean grinders out there at all price points.  It will be one of the best things you can do for your home-brewed coffee.

Contact Time

Contact time refers refers to the amount of time that the coffee bean spends in the water brewing. There is no hard and fast rule, but the important thing is to make sure that you are brewing your coffee to your own preference. It’s a case of trial and error. After a while, you should be able to determine what the right contact time is for your ideal cup of coffee, and that’s going to make for a great start to the day.
