Black Cutout Dress, How to Style for a Night Out

There’s no denying the cutout dress trend is still going strong into fall. Cutouts are a fun addition to your basic dress and don’t necessarily have to be daring. Many options show just a hint of skin with subtle cutouts across the shoulder, keyhole cutouts at the waist, or slim cutouts on the back of a dress. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you’ll see oval cutouts above or below the chest to more daring larger cutouts at the hips, ribs, and waist.

With such a varying degree of cutout options out there, you can rock the trend even if you’re someone that doesn’t usually wear cutout anything. Remember, trying trends should not stress you out. Look for a piece that fits your personal style and that you feel comfortable in. For me, it was this black cutout dress with an open shoulder.

Side note: at the end of the post, I have an awesome giveaway for you! I’d love it if you entered!

Effortless Fall Date Night Outfit Idea

When I came across this dress, I knew it would be the perfect date night dress to wear this fall and winter. It takes your LBD up a notch with the feminine open shoulder. The material is a soft rib knit, so it will keep you warm and cozy while still looking effortlessly chic.

How to Style a Black Cutout Dress

Since the shoulder cutout detail makes a statement, I went the minimalist route, skipped the necklace, and wore my oversized pearl hoop earrings. If you want to accessorize with a necklace, avoid shorter lengths that could get lost underneath the neckline and statement necklaces that take away from the interesting cutout detail. Instead, go for a long pendant necklace to balance the look. I completed the outfit with a deep red circle bag (last seen here) to add another playful element to this look.

Wearing Heels with a Black Midi Dress

You often don’t see me in heels, but I couldn’t resist styling my black cutout dress with my new Teddy Blake Emma Suede Sandals. They were a gift Andrea gave the blond squad tribe over our recent girl’s weekend. You read that right; Teddy Blake just branched out into shoes. The Emma Suede Sandal comes in five color options, and I’m wearing the camel. These 4-inch stilettos are made with Italian suede and the same superb quality that Teddy Blake handbags are known for.

Where Else Can You Wear a Black Cutout Dress

The best thing about this dress is that you can dress it up or down. Meeting your girlfriends for lunch or a day of shopping? You can style this dress casually with a pair of sneakers and a baseball hat or fedora. Add some patterned tights, tall boots, and a blazer for a polished look for a casual office environment. Or, swap the blazer for a moto jacket and throw on some booties for that extra edge.
