A few months ago, a friend sent me an article about how the show Succession has inspired the quiet luxury trend. The show’s Costume designer Michelle Matland has created pricey yet understated wardrobes unique to each of the Roy family characters.ย And, since I’ve always been a fan of Shiv Roy’s tailored suits and neutral style, I thought, what a great idea for a blog post.
What is quiet luxury, you ask? Keep reading to learn about why it’s trending and how to wear it on a budget.
What Does Quiet Luxury Mean?
Fashion has always been cyclical. There was a time when luxury meant flaunting a diamond necklace and fur coat. Fast forward to when luxury was defined by the logos you flashed on your handbags, belts, and sneakers. And now, quiet luxury, meaning wearing styles that focus on quality (the detailing and high-end craftmanship) over quantity.
Quiet luxury isn’t really new; it’s been around for centuries. It’s a minimalist approach to style. Instead of fast fashion and shopping hauls, it focuses on thoughtful shopping. Additionally, quiet luxury goes hand in hand with the stealth wealth trend, meaning emitting sophistication without showing off. Think of those understated luxury pieces you know at first glance that have a big price tag but don’t boast a visible logo.
Wardrobe Staples That Exemplify Quite Luxury
You don’t have to be wealthy to try the quiet luxury trend. It goes back to your closet basics, those versatile, neutral pieces that have stood the test of time. It’s essentially a capsule wardrobe made up of pieces you can wear season after season. And you probably already have some key pieces in your closet.
How to Get the Quiet Luxury Look for Less
Did you catch my post last month where I challenged myself to shop my closet to create new outfits? With that said, since quiet luxury is the opposite of fast fashion, I wanted to continue in that direction and see if I could put together a quiet luxury outfit with what I already had on hand.
I shared this vest in my May Amazon haul. I had originally purchased it in tan but ended up exchanging it for ivory. It’s a great layering piece and looks great on its own too. It’s currently sold out, but I linked similar options for you below. Quiet luxury is all about simple neutral basics, so I paired my vest with my linen trousers. Tan sandals and a stony-colored handbag completed the look.
