The old money trend is more popular than ever this year. It’s all about timeless fashion, muted colors, and impeccable tailoring. The goal is to look polished and sophisticated without trying too hard. Today, I’m sharing an old-money aesthetic outfit and how to get that understated look without breaking the bank.
The Old Money Vibe Outfit
Polo Sweater and Tailored Shorts
I started with a tan and white striped polo sweater to create my old money aesthetic outfit. Stripes are a staple in any classic wardrobe, and a polo sweater is both sporty and refined. You don’t need to splurge to find a quality piece. Look for natural fabrics like cotton or a cotton blend that will give you that luxurious feel without the hefty price tag. My sweater is from Quince and is under $50. It’s made sustainably and is offered in a few color options. It fits true to size – the slightly cropped length hits right below my waist.
Tailoring is everything when it comes to an old-money aesthetic outfit. Well-fitted shorts can instantly elevate your outfit. Look for shorts with a high waist and a slightly looser leg to maintain a classy silhouette. These are also from Quince. They’re a wrinkle-resistant woven crepe fabric with a 5″ inseam and run true to size. I also found some great options at J. Crew and Banana Republic.
Style tip: Tuck the front of your polo sweater into the shorts and add a belt to define your waist and keep the look polished.
Accessorize Smartly
Another key element in an old-money aesthetic outfit is the accessories. Keep them minimal and classic. Think gold hoop earrings or simple gold necklaces. Even a pair of vintage-inspired sunglasses can add an extra touch of sophistication.
I’ve worn this outfit a few times, the first, I opted for flat beige sandals. This time around, I picked a pair of platform sandals. These are the Jet Set from Naot and are incredibly comfortable and versatile, too. When choosing footwear for that old-money vibe, stick to neutral colors like beige, tan, or brown to keep the look cohesive.
Finally, nothing ties an outfit together like a statement bag. I chose my beige Teddy Blake top handle bag (last seen here) to round off my old money aesthetic outfit. Teddy Blake is one of my favorite places to shop for handbags. The workmanship and detailing are incredible and stand the test of time. Use my promo code TBDOUSEDINPINK30ย for $30 off at Teddy Blake.
More Tips for the Old Money Aesthetic on a Budget
- Quality Over Quantity: It’s better to have a few high-quality items than a wardrobe full of fast fashion. Look for pieces that are well-made and will last for years. There are plenty of budget-friendly brands that offer great quality.
- Tailoring: Even affordable clothes can look expensive if they fit well. Consider tailoring – a little nip and tuck can make a difference.
- Capsule Wardrobe: Invest in a few key pieces you can mix and match. Neutral colors and classic styles are your best friends here. Think white shirts, maxi skirts, and well-fitted pants. This way, you can create multiple outfits without needing a closet full of clothes. You can get 50% off my everyday summer capsule wardrobe through Friday with code SUMMER. Achieving the old money aesthetic doesn’t have to drain your bank account. Focus on timeless, well-made pieces that fit your budget. Remember, it’s all about how you wear it, not how much you spend.
