Can you believe we’re a week from Christmas? I’m excited to share my holiday home decorating ideas and tour with you today. Decorating is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time, and I hope you enjoy this photo-loaded post!
Family Room
Our family room is the heart of our home, where we hang out, watch movies and play games. An easy decor idea that makes an instant impact is to swap out your throw pillowcases for seasonal ones. I also like to add a chunky faux fur blanket to the sectional. It instantly makes the space feel warm and inviting.
I generally don’t buy much holiday decor anymoe. I try to use the same things repeateadly and place them differently each year, so it seems new. But this year, I couldn’t resist theย gold antler candlesticksย and the Marshall Field’s canvas you see on the fireplace mantel.
Space is tight without an open floor plan, and we have two slim artificial trees. One is in our family room, and the other usually is in our living room, but we have a big crowd coming on Christmas Eve, and we’re utilizing our partially finished basement this year. We discussed getting a real tree, but it didn’t happen. Maybe next year!
I love the look of a themed tree but have never done one. I adorn our trees with random ornaments we have acquired over the years. Growing up, my parents gave me an ornament every year for Christmas, and we have carried on the tradition with our daughter!
PRO TIP: An easy holiday home decorating idea is to use garland everywhere. I use it above the cabinets, on our sideboards, etc. Drape it wherever you have space and add fairy lights (most come battery-operated now) for a magical glow.
Living Room
The living room’s decor leans more subtle but just as festive. I layered a colorful red garland, festive pillowcases, and a few Christmas knickknacks over our bookcase and sideboard. Sidenote: I’m wondering where everyone keeps their iRobot vacuum (if you have one)? We don’t have a mudroom, so as you can see, ours is kept in plain sight in our living room, and I’d love to tuck it away somewhere.
PRO TIP: Another affordable way to add festive touches to your home is with candles. I have candlesticks in every room. They keep your holiday decor cohesive and not overpowering.
Dining Room
I created a centerpiece in the dining room with a holiday tray and candlesticks. I stead of using candles, I swapped them out for simple decor pieces like a mosaic glass and a mini cloche. The table will be heading down to the basement and will be replaced with two banquet tables for all of the food on Christmas Eve. Easy DIY Christmas gnomes.
PRO TIP: Use everyday items like trays or bowls to create centerpieces you can easily move when it’s time to eat.
Kitchen
The kitchen decor is all about being festive without getting in the way. I draped the tops of our cabinets with garland and hung small wreaths over the sink and stove. The Ho Ho Ho metal sign I’ve had for at least 25 years and is always above my sink. A raised marble tray on the coffee bar holds a mini tree and wine bottle light. The Marshall Field’s Mistletoe Bear cookie jar was a fun find at a vintage market.
PROTIP: Add holiday cheer to your kitchen with small accents that won’t interfere with your cooking or prep space.
That’s a wrap, friends! I hope you enjoyed my 2024 holiday home tour! I hope these holiday home decorating ideas will help you create a cozy, festive space perfect for making memories this holiday season!
