Love vs Design Wallpaper Review

Love Vs Design Wallpaper Review

I’m excited to share my experience and review with Love vs Design Wallpaper today! It all started with a command strip mishap. Command strips have always been hit or miss for me, and we had a little incident in our daughter’s room when she moved out last year. When she removed art from one of the walls, the drywall came with it.

I tried to spackle and repaint it, but the wall was too damaged. So, the easiest thing to do at the time was to put a huge faux bamboo tree in front of it. That worked for a while until our daughter wanted the tree for her new living room.

So we knew we needed to figure something out. My husband had commented about a wallpaper accent wall, and I thought, what a great idea! This is where Love vs Design comes in.

Love vs Design is the sister company ofย Basic Invite, a Utah-based stationery site that allows you to create truly custom invitations and holiday cards instantly in millions of color combinations.

Shortly after, they realized that the technology they had developed for wedding invitations could be transferred into a line of removable wallpapers and murals. Love vs. Design launched in 2020.

Love vs Design offers made-to-order custom color wallpaper in peel-and-stick and traditional wallpaper options. There are hundreds of designs to choose from, but what hooked me was that I could customize the wallpaper colors and make the print completely unique.

I had only worked with peel-and-stick wallpaper when we did a small accent wall in our family room. It turned out great, but the process was tedious, so I thought I would try Love vs Design’s glissade traditional option. It requires no paste. Yes, you heard that right! You spray the back of the wallpaper with water to activate the adhesive. If you need to remove it, spray it with water and peel each panel off.

Why I Choose Love vs Design Wallpaper

I landed on Love vs Design because it offers so many styles that cater to different tastes, and you can customize the color options of the design. So, whether youโ€™re into bold prints or more subtle patterns, you can truly make it your own.

Love vs Design can’t color-match any paint brands. However, with any sample order, you can order a sample of large swatches to determine the best color for your space for just $6.

It really helps to see your customized print in person before ordering. The generous 9-inch x 25-inch sample comes with wallpaper materials, and you can also order a large color swatch to see how different colors print.

How I Customized My Love Vs Design Wallpaper Colors

This is my favorite part of my Love vs Design wallpaper review. You can get started on your wallpaper selection in a few ways. You can filter by color or by collection. Collections range from a style, like coastal or botanical, to specific rooms, such as girls’ or living rooms. If you’re unsure where to start, you can also shop real customer photos. It was helpful to see the different wallpaper prints and colors in different spaces. I initially envisioned a bold floral print but selected a print from their geometric collection.

This is where the fun started. All of the prints have default colors, and you can see how they look in Love vs Design’s sample rooms (bathroom, bedroom, kids’ room, hallway, etc.). But you can also upload photos of your space so you can see exactly how it will look.

I selected the Inky Chevron print. The default colors were Snow for the background and Charcoal for the stripes. The photos below are my before and after with the default colors.

And it gets more exciting from there. You can refine the colors by swapping them out with Love Vs. Design’s 200 custom color options. Because this was an accent wall, the wallpaper needed to blend seamlessly with the grey paint color in the room. I played around with the colors until I settled on Harbor for the background and Rosemary for the stripes.

If I wanted a completely different color scheme, all I would need to do is change the color palette and then click on see it in your space. This example showsย Earthย for the background andย Rustyย for the stripes.

I was confident with my choice, so I skipped the sample and placed my order. Measuring was straightforward – you measure the wall’s height and width in feet. They have tips on measuring angled and multiple walls. Once you enter the measurements, their system will calculate the number of 2-foot wide panels you need.

How to install love vs design traditional wallpaper

The first step is to prep the walls by cleaning them with a mixture of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water. Wipe with a soft cloth or sponge. Let the wall dry, and then repeat up to 3 times.

Remove any outlet covers. Then, use a level to draw a vertical line 24 inches from the left side of your wall. This is where you will line up the first panel and ensure your pattern is level.

I laid the first panel out onto the floor and sprayed the wall and the back of the paper with water. Then, I applied the first panel along the line I drew on the wall, leaving a 1โ€ overlap on the ceiling. Smooth the wallpaper downwards with the included squeegee and move on to lining up the next panel. If you find a spot that is dry, peel off the panel and spray with more water.

When all the panels were up, I used an exacto knife to trim off the leftover wallpaper around the ceiling and trim.

Here’s the finished result. I am beyond thrilled with how it turned out. Love Vs Design’s Glissade Traditional Wallpaper was easy to work with. I thought it was easier to manage than the peel-and-stick I’ve used previously. And it didn’t take very long – I completed the project on my own (my husband was out watching football) in about four hours.
